Affordable Housing Services
The Firm has been involved in the affordable housing industry (including public housing authorities) since its inception in 1974. Partners and staff attend most Public Housing Authority (PHA) and State Housing conferences throughout the year, in addition to a number of housing and tax credit seminars. Well over 1,000 government assisted projects and tax credit projects (RD, HUD, and State Housing Finance Agencies) and 12 PHAs currently use our services.
We are well versed with the federal low income housing tax credit program and its numerous complexities. We assist our current clientele in structuring tax credit deals and provide tax returns and timely information to syndicators and the accounting firms with whom they work.
Our engagement team has housing industry expertise and will provide continuity of personnel from one year to the next. Unlike some firms, who may have relatively inexperienced staff performing the day-to-day audit work, our partners, managers and seniors perform a major part of the field work. Our entire staff has extensive experience with affordable housing projects. Additionally, all our tax staff and partners have worked extensively with real estate tax issues throughout their careers, including ongoing compliance with the low income housing tax credit regulations.
As indicated above, we currently provide audit and tax services to more than 1,000 government assisted projects (over 600 of which are held in syndicated partnerships) pursuant to RD, HUD, and State Housing Finance Agency guidelines. In addition, we serve approximately 100 other clients in the housing industry.
Each of the key professional staff assigned to the engagement team has received continuing professional education as required by our firm. In addition, each member of the staff has met or exceeded the CPE requirement outlined in “Government Auditing Standards” (the “Yellow Book”).
